Experience Stockholm from water - Boat tour under the bridges

The “boat tour under the bridges” lasts for two hours and 15 minutes. I took it once with my then 14-year-old daughter. We were surprised at how extensive the round trip was and how many sights we could see from the water – from the Royal Palace to Gröna Lund amusement park. We both had a great time on the tour and learned a lot about Stockholm.

The tour starts in the city centre, passes the old town Gamla Stan, then the islands Södermalm, Lilla Essingen and Stora Essingen. Finally, you drive by the new district Hammarby Sjöstad and the green areas of the royal island Djurgården.

You see water, bridges, locks, seagulls and lots of boats. In total, you pass under 12 bridges. One of them is the imposing Västerbron. After the boat tour you will understand very well why Stockholm is called the Venice of the North.

Target group

Taped guiding came via headphones. On our tour, all participants listened attentively. Of course, this could b a small disadvantage because you hardly talk during the tour. For smaller children, the concentrated silence is not so suitable, we feel. If you are travelling as a family with children under approx. 12 years, the archipelago tour and especially the shorter tour with the amphibious bus fit better.

For solo travellers and couples who want to learn interesting facts, background information and anecdotes about Stockholm, however, this relaxed tour under the bridges is ideal. What’s more, the views are gorgeous.

Departure point

Look carefully where you will be departing from. Normally you start at Strömkajen, not far from the National Museum. Occasionally, however, the boats depart 200 metres further away from Nybrokajen, not far from the Dramaten theatre.

The tour is usually offered from the beginning of April to mid-December. Food is available for purchase on board.
