Malmö has a lot to offer. Here are 14 top attractions. Most of them lie within walking distance of the central station in the heart of the city. For the Emporia Shopping Center and the Öresund Bridge, however, you would need to use public transport.

1. Västra Hamnen with the Turning Torso

The modern Western Harbour district has outstanding architecture, nice beaches, seaside cafés and one of Europe’s best skateboard parks.

2. Malmö Saluhall

The Malmö Saluhall is an indoor food market that combines both traditional and innovative culinary trends. The market hall is housed in an old warehouse.

3. Malmo Live

Malmö Live is a concert hall, congress centre and hotel building (with skybar). The concert hall is said to be Sweden’s finest.

4. Central Station

The food court at the Central Station is good place for a quick lunch and a glass of wine. I like the station’s mix of old and new architecture.

5. Ribersborgs open-air bath

This is both a cold-bath house (with nude bathing) as well as a 3 km long sandy beach.

6. Malmöhus Castle

Malmöhus Castle is a Renaissance castle. It is home to Malmö Museum with exhibitions reaching from history to nature.

7. Lilla torg, a square

This is a small, cosy and busy square with many restaurants. Food and drink are serverd from lunchtime to late in the evening – even outside.

8. Sankt Petri Church

The basilica-like church is the oldest building in Malmö, with foundations from the early 14th century.

9. Stadsbiblioteket

Stadsbiblioteket is Malmö City Library. The public library consists of three buildings, an old one (a former castle), a new one (named the “Calender of Light”, see picture above) and an interconnecting entrance building (“The Cylinder”).

10. Moderna Museet

At Malmö’s Museum of Modern Art you will find works from the 20th century as well as contemporary art. The museum is part of the Moderna Museum in Stockholm.

11. Möllevångstorget square

Möllevångstorget is a square with many international restaurants and food shops plus a farmer’s market.

12. Folkets Park

The park offers playgrounds, cafés, a terrarium and a minigolf course. You will find lots of space and green lawns.

13. Emporia Shopping Center

One of Scandinavia’s largest shopping malls, with interesting architecture. On its roof you will find a green garden with a fantastic view. You can see the Öresund Bridge from here.

14. Öresund Bridge Viewpoint

There is a conference building next to the Öresund Bridge. On its roof you get a perfect view of the bridge, see picture below. There is even a footpath under the bridge.

Bonus tip
