What’s new and upcoming in Gothenburg in 2024

Here are five (re-)openings to look forward to in Gothenburg in 2024.

– Early 2024: Fish Church market hall “Feskekörka” reopening

The Fish Church Market Hall, also known as “Feskekörka”, reopens after almost four years of renovation. This iconic seafood temple dating back to 1874 houses fishmongers, restaurants, and a bar. Vegetarian options are also available. The Fish Church will be open all year round and there will be outdoor seating in the summer. The reopening is planned for early 2024.

– April 2024: World of Volvo opening

The “World of Volvo”, operated by Volvo Cars and the Volvo Group, will become a landmark and a meeting place with space for the new Volvo Museum, exciting exhibitions, concerts, and culinary experiences. The round, five-story building, inspired by the Scandinavian landscape, will be located right next to the Liseberg amusement park and will open in April 2024. See the photo above.

– Spring 2024: Waterworld Oceana opening

Oceana, part of the Liseberg amusement park, is inspired by the history of Gothenburg and will be unlike anything available in Scandinavia today. Guests will enjoy everything from quiet indoor sandy beaches to thrilling water slides. With 14 attractions, a wave pool, a family river and water games for different age groups, Oceana will open in spring 2024.

Update 2024-02-14: Unfortunately, the Oceana burnt down completely shortly before its completion.

– Spring 2024: Public sauna at the Jubileumsparken reopening

The public and free sauna in Jubileumsparken will reopen in the spring of 2024. The architecturally exceptional sauna, originally a prototype, will be replaced by a permanent sauna, but will retain its unique appearance. It is also possible to swim all year round in the recently opened two saltwater pools in the river next to the sauna. During the warmer seasons, you can also swim in a freshwater pool.

– Spring 2024: Clarion Hotel Karlatornet opening
– End of 2024 or spring 2025: Viewing platform and Skybar opening

Karlatornet is now the tallest building in Scandinavia with a height of 246 meters and 74 floors. It will offer apartments, restaurants, a sky bar, and a viewing platform, as well as a photo exhibition about the project and the surrounding area. The new Clarion Hotel Karlatornet will open in spring 2024 with 300 rooms. The viewing platform and Skybar are planned for the end of 2024 or spring 2025. And yes, it really is very, very high!
