The Germans love Swedish cakes, the French import large quantities of Swedish bread, and the British quench their thirst with Swedish cider. Swedish food exports are growing at a record pace. The urge is particularly great for food and drink for breakfast, snacks and party, according to a new survey of the new Swedish export miracle. Even coffee and milk products represent a significant share of Swedish food exports. Now the Swedish food industry is aiming for 150 billion SEK in Swedish food exports in 2025 (2013: 58 billion SEK).
“One could say that we are best at exporting food and drink that is linked to the Swedish sin, such as cakes, pastries, sweets, and alcohol,” says Swedish Food Federation’s CEO Marie Söderqvist.
She also hopes that more Swedish companies strengthen their exports in other product categories. “We need to expand our exports from sin to healthy. There is a huge potential for Swedish food to feed the increased demand in the world for ecological and healthier foods. And here we are now seeing several Swedish companies on the rise,” says Marie Söderqvist.
The Swedish Food Federation
The Swedish Food Federation (Livsmedelsföretagen) has approximately 800 member companies, representing all kinds of companies in the food industry, from small, local companies to large, international groups.
